Frequently asked questions

• What do needles feel like?

Sal uses thin, single-use needles, in different parts of your body, away from any injury or pain. On insertion, you have a fleeting feeling as the needle moves inwards. This sensation passes in milliseconds. It's totally normal to feel nervous about your first session - but honestly most people respond by asking “Is that it?!”

• I feel really nervous about needles. Can I still see Sal?

If the thought of needles terrifies you, just let Sal know!She can offer you ‘baby’ needles (about 1mm long) or use acupressure. Alternatively, come in for a chat with Sal about small life changes you can make to help you move away from pain - guided by the wisdom of Chinese medicine.With all that said, when Sal inserts most people's first acupuncture needle, they often respond by asking “Is that it?!”Many patients are surprised by how little sensation they feel and how quickly they relax, once the needles are inserted.This is because Sal's needles are twelves times thinner (!!!!) than injection needles - the primary experience most of us have for being ‘needled’.

• Do I need to prepare for my session?

Here's three simple things you can do before you come in:1. Try not to eat a big meal before your session. Ideally, eat your last meal 2-3 hours before your session. Snack on fruit or a few nuts as you need.2. Reduce your caffeine intake before you see Sal - it can temporarily increase your blood pressure and heart rate.3. Reduce the intensity (or skip) any exercise you do before and after your session.

• I feel unwell. Do I still come?

If you feel less than 70% of your usual self, the best thing you can do is stay home and rest.Just let Sal know you need to cancel or reschedule your session at least 24 hours in advance. If you are sick and cancel on the same day, Sal has a $25 cancellation fee to cover her clinic costs

• Can I cancel a session?

Yes, of course! Just let Sal know you need to cancel or reschedule your session at least 24 hours in advance, otherwise Sal charges in full.

• Can I pay by eftpos?

Yes you can - just know there's a 2.5% surcharge for eftpos payments. You can also pay by cash or invoice - with no fees.

• Do you have a waiting area?

Sorry, no Sal doesn't have a waiting area. However, when you arrive, if the roller-blind is up and you can see inside clinic, then head straight in!

• Where can I park?

Sal has off-street parking - so pull on up to the driveway and park on the LEFT. You’ll see a clinic sign beside the entrance and, if the roller-blind is up and you can see inside clinic, come on in!

• I've injured myself on the mountain, can Sal help?

Absolutely yes!!! Simply book a 45 min follow-up session with Sal. The style of acupuncture Sal uses often reduces pain while you're on her treatment table.

• How can I get co-funded ACC sessions?

Sal offers up to 9 ACC co-funded sessions over 9-12 consecutive weeks. 'The clock' starts with your first session with Sal. You can read ACC's full statement hereTo receive co-funded ACC sessions, you need to have already seen a GP, physio, chiropractor or specialist and bring your ACC letter or ACC claim number (it starts with 100) to your first session. Otherwise, Sal charges in full.

• Can Sal submit an ACC claim for me?

No, Sal can't. ACC requires you to visit a GP, physio, osteo, chiropractor or specialist to lodge an ACC claim.Remember to bring your ACC letter or ACC claim number (it starts with 100) to your first session, so you can receive ACC co-funded sessions with Sal.
